New Skin

okay, you see i have a new skin for this blog.  i was kinda bored with the old one and wanted one with a smaller typeface, and a bit more features.

i plan on changing the header image, not sure what kind of image yet.

so here’s todays’s POTD:

Classy or Not?

one day a small group of us workers were discussing our impending move to a temporary location while the a/c was being fixed at our current location, and several of us had made the visit to the new place to check out what it was like.

someone had asked if anyone checked out the restrooms, and nobody had cuz well, no one didn’t think to. so one co-worker had mentioned that she should’ve checked it out. she says that whenever she goes to a restaurant or stays at a hotel, or high-end store she checks out their restrooms. she claims that a classy eatery or sleepery is truly classy if their public restrooms are well maintained and easy on the eyes. one of the places she mentioned that has a really nice rest-stop is neiman marcus. well i should hope so what with the high prices of the merchandise.

i never really noticed restrooms, except when they’re dirty of course, cuz i’m there to do my business and just get out as quickly as i can, esp. if there’s something smelly going on. ;-O

but, last weekend i was eating at p.f. chang’s-honolulu (btw, pretty good food, and great service) with the family and had to take a break to the ladies’ room. initially i hadn’t noticed the decor, but after i got into one of the stalls and noticed how clean it was (of course, the placed had only recently opened, so that could be the reason for it still being fairly clean) and was a bit impressed. that’s when the convo at work popped into my mind. and, since i had my camera w/me (i usually carry it now just for moments like this) and i had the place all to myself i took a few photos of the ladies’ restroom.

and so here are the POTDs:

the photos are kinda dark cuz the place is like so. it fall in line w/the dining room atmosphere…on the dark side.

so have you been to any p.f. chang’s? and would you say that the establishment is truly classy?

High Stress Level

the husband has come home from his biz trip in albuquerque.  and let me say that my stress level has increased significantly since.  again i worry about his needs and desires and it just is making me crazy.  no longer is it just me and the daughter (and the numerous pets) .  it was so nice…<sigh>.

but in some ways it is nice to have him home, to help with the daughter.  for instance, last nite they went out after dinner to the pet store (and who  knows where else?) and was gone for about 2 hours.  aaaahhhh…it was so nice and peaceful to have the house and tv to myself for that short period.  i got to fold some of the laundry and catch up on my soap operas.

here’s today’s POTD:

the dogs in my life: the boy on the left, the girl on the right.  i should’ve edited out the red-eye from the girl, but i was too lazy.

What’s The Fuss?

about madonna adopting a boy from africa?  was it illegal?  i haven’t read the fine details of it, i just scanned the headline in the entertainment section of the news about criticism and how the boy’s father claims the media is making a big fuss out of nothing.

for me, i could care less.  so what if she chooses to adopt him?  that’s her choice.  as long as he’s not abused by her, it’s a legal adoption, and all parties are willing,  let it be.

here’s the picture of the day:

is this a state flower?  if so, which state?

Picture Of The Day

today i’m starting something new that i hope i can do daily so that i can post some kind of blog daily.

it’s called picture of the day. my hope is to take a picture of anything and post it for you to view and possibly ponder what it might be if it isn’t obvious. feel free to comment, critique, and or make a guess.

here’s today’s picture:

cloud formation 10-18-06

i took this after work and right before i picked up the daugther from pre-school. the cloud pattern was so intriguing to me that i had to take a pic. now i need to google and find out what this kind of pattern or formation is called. if you know or want to take a guess, be my guest and let me know.

Blackout Sunday

did you all have a great weekend?  i sure did, well until yesterday…as you all probably know by now…there was an earthquake here in hawaii, specifically the big island.  we’re all fine except my area (on oahu) was without power for over 12 hours!

here’s a link to a picture of a home on the big island. as the caption state and if you look closely you can see it sitting dangerously close to the edge of the cliff where the land eroded after the quake.  i hope everyone there is safe. this was the first time i ever felt the initial tremor of a quake and one of it’s aftershocks.  i thought i was having the the chills (fever) until i heard some things shifting around in the bonus room.  luckily nothing toppled over, just a couple of the daughter’s mini dora dolls took a spill off the tv. everything’s back to “normal” now and i’m at work and the daughter’s in school.  well almost everything is…some pocket areas are still without power and some of the traffic lights are still wonkers…just hope there’s no traffic accidents.

The Husband Is Outta Here!

temporarily anyways [shucks! ;-) ].  he’s going on a biz trip to albuquerque (sp?), nm for some kind of conference.  and he’ll be gone for 9 days.

in some ways i’ll be glad to have him outta my hair, but in others i wish he wasn’t going.  i’ll glad not to have to hear him nag, critcize, snicker and make snide comments, and i won’t have to cook for him, but yet him being gone means i’m the only one there for our daughter, who’ll nag, nag, and nag me nearly to death.  oh how easy it is to say, “go see daddy” or “daddy’s right there, why don’t you ask him?” and then she’ll go bother him. <sigh>

well even tho’ she’ll be nagging me all the time, it’s definitely one less stress to deal with when the husbands gone.

as the cliche goes: men, can’t live with them, can’t live without them.

Should He Stay or Should He Go?

“you’re fired!” that’s what i wish i could say to the student (high school) employee that i “supervise.” on paper i’m not his supervisor, rather it’s my boss who is. but, i got handed the duty after the previous “supervisor” retired. and so now i get to do his paperwork and train and praise and correct his actions. but i don’t have any authority to hire and fire.

so why do i want this guy gone? well, his tardines and attendance have been terrible. oh he comes to work pretty much everyday, but he comes to work late more often than not. and he doesn’t call in to report that he’ll be late. for example, yesterday he came in 40 minutes late and no call. his reason for his tardiness? he overslept. what?! (and, this week there was no school, it was fall intercession). this has been his excuse many times before. and he’s been counseled thrice about his attendance. my boss even wrote him an “expectations” letter back in aug. which suggested he find another job (read: not fired), and advised that we should monitor his attendancefor the month of sept. should he decide to stay with this job (which i hoped he wouldn’t). sept. came and went, and his tardiness didn’t improve that much and he still called in at least once a week to say that he couldn’t come to work because of school commitments.

okay, i do understand school is important, but if you’re gonna tell me that you CAN work and go to school then i expect that you be able to commit to working the hours we expect (in this case a minimum of 15 hour/week.), and i can understand that you occasionally can’t come in like maybe once or twice a month, but once a week? come on! and tardy practically everyday? (btw, this attendance and tardiness problem has been going on way before aug., like since may.)

yesterday was the last straw for me. 40 minutes late, overslept, and no call. i want him out!

you have any opinion? should i sympathize with this guy? if here were in the private sector, adult workforce he would’ve been fired by now.

Beadaholic

my name’s keleka and i’m a beadaholic.  i like to make my own beaded jewelry and i love to browse other bead-heads’ designs.  i also try to sell my wares at www.sparklechic.etsy.com.

i have way too many beads :-) and spent way too much $$$ :-o .  if the husband really knew how much money went to those lovlies he’d blow his top.  i think he has some idea of how much i’ve spent, but doesn’t angrily complain about it cuz he has his own addiction - electronic gadgetry - that he spends $$$ loads on.  so we’re equal.  but you should see how many extra tvs, printers, digital cameras, etc. we have!  anyway, getting back to my addiction…

here’s a pic of earrings that i made for myself recently.  nothing fancy, just basic design, but a lot of hard work on my part.

Aulana

these are red garnets wrapped onto a ss chain and suspended from flower-patterend indonesian earhooks.

so, any of you out there a beadaholic too, or have any addictions (non-illegal and non-sexual, please) you’d like to share?
